Radiographic Positioning of the Dog

This course was designed to introduce staff members new to radiology on how to perform common radiographic procedures in the canine patient. It also serves as a good review for more seasoned technical staff and veterinarians. The ten modules consist of four prerequisite modules to provide needed background to optimize comprehension of the six training videos. Videos, still images, diagrams and quizzes are included in each module to help the learner process the available information.

The prerequisite modules include information on radiation safety, terminology, and preparation prior to performing the exam. Submission of a radiology case to AIS is also included with this training. Detailed training of common radiographic examinations in the dog including positioning of the thorax, abdomen, shoulder, elbow, pelvis and stifle comprise this series.

The modules include some sedated “hands-free” as well as “hand held” techniques for positioning. Positioning modules include information on anatomy, positioning and quality control of the images. Each module includes a detailed handout that can be printed for quick reference. Upon completion of this program, the learner will have the resources to obtain diagnostic quality canine radiographs.

Objectives

  • Understand why radiation safety is important and how to use good radiation safety to obtain diagnostic radiographs in the dog
  • Understand how to make diagnostic quality radiographs in the dog of the six studies provided
  • Understand how to quality control radiographic studies obtained and how to correct potential deficiencies

Prerequisites

These prerequisite courses are highly recommended for those making radiographs for the first time, and suggested for all other users as a good review. It is possible to review the positioning courses without viewing the prerequisites.

NOTE: You will not receive RACE CE credit viewing these courses on this page. For RACE CE credit you must register with Antech Learning Unleashed and access the modules through that site.
